Hello, friends! Welcome to my Corner!
I was just reading a section from the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring, the part in which Frodo and his friends prepare to leave the Shire. They are trekking along and begin singing a walking song, mentioning water and trees, with the promise of home and bed at the end. I realized that a lot of the wonder in The Lord of the Rings doesn’t come from ancient prophecies or magic spells, but just plain wanderlust. The joy that comes with traveling out in the open and discovering things. I felt an urge to grab a walking stick, a picnic basket, and some friends, and just rove. I wanted to go explore places like Ireland or England, or even the trails in Southern California where I live. A lot of that feeling is embedded in The Hobbit as well.
